Sarah Southon,
BScN, MN, NP (Child Stream) Clinical Associate, Faculty of Nursing, University of Alberta

I am a Nurse Practitioner at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Scoliosis Program. My nursing career started in 2001 when I graduated from Lakehead University’s BScN program and started working as an RN in general pediatrics and NICU. After completing the MN-NP (Child) program through the University of Toronto in 2006, I worked as a Clinical Educator and Instructor. In 2007, I made a big change in my life and moved from Ontario to Edmonton to work as the first NP in the Pediatric Scoliosis Program at the Stollery. Since that time, our program volume of patients has more than doubled and our research activities have expanded greatly. Our research focusses on improving the detection, imaging and treatment of spinal deformities in children. I am grateful to work with a dedicated multidisciplinary team of colleagues and researchers who provide state-of-the-art clinical care and conduct leading-edge research.

Little known facts: In my spare time, I love doing yoga, traveling and walking my dog.
